Super Eagles celebrate goal against Algeria in AFCON 2025 quarter-final victory
Nigeria players erupt in celebration after securing a 2-0 win over Algeria to reach the semi-finals

Nigeria has secured a spot in the AFCON 2025 semi-finals with a dominant 2-0 victory over Algeria in the quarter-final match held on January 10, 2026, at Marrakesh Stadium in Morocco. The Super Eagles controlled the game from start to finish, denying the Desert Foxes any significant opportunities and advancing confidently in the tournament.

The breakthrough came in the second half when Victor Osimhen scored the opener in the 46th minute, rising to head in a precise cross. Akor Adams doubled the lead shortly after, finishing a well-orchestrated counterattack with a left-footed shot from the center of the box. Algeria struggled to respond, with Nigeria’s defense holding firm and limiting their chances throughout the match.

This result marks Nigeria’s progression from Group C, where they finished undefeated, through the Round of 16 win over Mozambique (4-0), and now into the final four. Algeria, who had advanced after a 1-0 extra-time win over DR Congo, could not replicate their form against a superior Nigerian side—as anticipated in our Nigeria vs Algeria quarter-final preview. The Super Eagles’ performance highlighted strong teamwork, with Osimhen’s aerial ability and Adams’ finishing proving decisive.

Nigeria will now await their semi-final opponent from the remaining quarter-finals—check the full AFCON 2025 quarter-final fixtures list here with the match scheduled for January 13 or 14, 2026, depending on the bracket. The tournament continues in Morocco, with the final set for January 18. Broadcasts are available on SuperSport, NTA, and CAF platforms.
