Adeleke Wins Reelection as Osun Governor, Defeats APC’s Oyebamiji by 66,252 Votes

Governor Ademola Adeleke wins Osun governorship reelection 2026

Governor Ademola Adeleke has been declared the winner of the August 15, 2026, Osun governorship election, polling 511,067 votes to defeat APC’s Bola Oyebamiji, who scored 444,815 votes. Adeleke, of the Accord Party, won 19 of 30 local government areas and secures a second term in office.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the result on Sunday morning after an overnight collation exercise in Osogbo, the state capital. Returning officer Prof.

Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole confirmed Adeleke’s win, giving the governor a margin of 66,252 votes over his closest rival.

Out of 1,005,800 total votes cast, 985,679 were valid, while 20,721 ballots were rejected, roughly 2.06 percent of the total. Adeleke’s 511,067 votes translate to 50.8 percent of the total votes cast, comfortably above the threshold needed to avoid a runoff.

Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) placed a distant third with 17,180 votes.

How Adeleke Won: A Breakdown of the LGA Results

Adeleke swept 19 of Osun’s 30 local government areas, including strongholds like Ede North, Ede South, Osogbo, Ife East, and Ife Central. His largest margin came from Ede North, where he polled 35,427 votes against Oyebamiji’s 10,283.

Oyebamiji, meanwhile, won 11 councils, performing strongest in Irewole, where he defeated Adeleke roughly three-to-one. He also carried Olorunda, Ilesa East, and Atakunmosa East, among others.

Several LGAs were tightly contested. In Boluwaduro, Adeleke edged Oyebamiji by fewer than 70 votes, while in Isokan, Oyebamiji narrowly outpolled the governor.

What This Means for Osun Politics

Adeleke first won the governorship in 2022 on the platform of the PDP, unseating then-incumbent Gboyega Oyetola of the APC.

His move to the Accord Party ahead of the 2026 election marked a significant political realignment, and this reelection victory consolidates his hold on the state for a second term.

The election wasn’t without controversy; observers reported BVAS machine malfunctions at several polling units, and there were allegations involving a member of the Accord Party found in possession of multiple PVCs. Whether these issues affect any post-election legal challenges from the APC remains to be seen.

For now, Adeleke’s victory extends Accord Party control in Osun and signals continued political momentum heading into the state’s next election cycle.
